Interpreting Your Test Scores from LEO Online

Starting this summer, students will be able to see their test scores available online through LEO Online.  This screen in LEO will show you all of your test scores that have been sent to or administered by the University (e.g. SAT scores, placement tests, etc.).

Below is a series of charts that will help you understand your placement test scores and what they mean for you at Old Dominion University.  If you have specific questions about your placement test scores, please contact your academic advisor.  If you find any discrepancies or errors in your placement test scores, be sure to point that out to your advisor and then he/she will refer you to the appropriate office.

COMPASS Math Placement Test    (top)

A math placement test for accurate placement into a mathematics class.

Writing Sample Placement Test     (top)

A test for all incoming students (including transfer students) that assesses proficiency in writing.

Exit Examination of Writing Proficiency     (top)

A test that examines an undergraduate student's writing abilities before leaving the University.  A requirement for graduation.

Freshman Assessment    (top)

The First Year (Freshman) Assessment is a University requirement, which consists of two parts: the Biographical Questionnaire (BioQ) and the Transition to College Inventory (TCI).  Both must be completed during the first semester, prior to pre-registration for the following semester. A hold will be placed on a student's account if the assessment is NOT completed during the first semester.

Transfer Assessment      (top)

The Transfer Student Assessment is a University requirement, which consists of  two parts: the Transfer Student Survey (TSS) and the Biographical Questionnaire (BioQ).  Both must be completed during the initial, entering semester for all undergraduate transfer students, prior to pre-registration for the following semester.  Transfer students will have a hold placed on their record one week prior to pre-registration.

Senior Assessment     (top)

The Senior Assessment is a University requirement for graduation, which consists of the Senior Student Satisfaction Survey (SSSS).  It must be completed during the semester in which the senior plans to graduate.

Foreign Language Satisfied in HS     (top)

This column will denote whether you have satisfied the University's foreign language requirement in high school.  This information is based off your submitted high school transcripts.  To satisfy this requirement, a student needs three years of one language or two years of two languages.  **NOTE:  This does NOT apply to students earning high school diplomas before December 31, 1985.**

If you feel that there is a mistake on your test screen and that you should have the foreign language requirement satisfied based on your curriculum of study in high school, please contact the Office of Admissions at 757-683-3685 or visit 108 Rollins Hall.

Assc Deg Meets L Gen Ed     (top)

This column will denote for transfer students if their earned associate's degree meets the lower division general education requirements at the University.

Assc Deg Doesn't Meet L Gen Ed    (top)

This column will denote for transfer students that their associate's degree DOES NOT meet the lower division general education requirements at the University.

SAT, ACT, MAT, GRE, PRAXIS and other scores not listed above     (top)

More than likely, these are standardized test scores that were taken for admission to Old Dominion University.  These scores are assigned to your record for review during consideration for admission.
