Additional Information

DANTES

As stated in the DANTES Candidate Information Booklet, the DANTES tests are like the College-Level examination Program (CLEP): individuals are able to receive college credit by taking advanced placement exams. Numerous tests are available in several different areas, including mathematics, social science, physical science, business, foreign language, applied technology, and humanities.

The University will accept a maximum of 60 semester hours of advanced placement toward the undergraduate degree. Students should request advanced placement credit as early as possible upon admission to degree status. At Old Dominion University, anyone wishing to earn credit by examination during the final semester must first receive approval of the dean of the college giving credit. This written permission is to accompany the application.

For each test, there is a fact sheet available that gives information about the topics that will be covered, books that would be useful for review, the number of questions on the tests, and score recommended by the American Council of Education (ACE) for credit. Each DANTES test is untimed (most tests take about 1-1/2 hours to complete).
